Anne Frank: Beyond the Diary is a 25-minute seated VR experience for museums and schools, taking audiences beyond Anne’s diary and into the world she lived in – from the 1933 book burning in Berlin and her life in Amsterdam, to a fully recreated Secret Annex, the surrounding Prinsengracht, and select moments from her diary.

Developed over several years with leading historians, Holocaust experts, cultural institutions, and Anne Frank specialists, the project combines rigorous historical research with immersive storytelling. A 10-minute demonstration is currently available, with the full experience targeted for release in 2027. While Anne’s diary remains at the heart of the experience, Beyond the Diary expands the story beyond the walls of the Secret Annex. Visitors journey through pivotal moments from Anne’s life and the world around her—from pre-war Amsterdam to the rise of Nazi Germany—providing historical context that deepens the meaning of her words. By placing the diary within the broader story of Anne’s life and the events that shaped it, the experience offers a more complete and deeply human portrait of Anne Frank.

Virtual reality offers a uniquely powerful way to connect with history by allowing audiences to experience places and moments that no longer exist. Rather than simply observing Anne Frank’s story, visitors are invited to stand within faithfully reconstructed environments that foster empathy, presence, and understanding. Designed as a seated museum experience, Anne Frank: Beyond the Diary will be presented in museums and cultural institutions, making this important story accessible to audiences around the world.

Our team spends countless hours studying archival photographs, architectural plans, maps, personal correspondence, and historical records to faithfully recreate Anne Frank’s world. We also work closely with historians, subject-matter experts, and museum professionals—sometimes researching details as specific as the type of fountain pen Anne was likely writing with—to ensure every environment and object reflects the historical record as accurately as possible.

Over a decade since the project was first announced, the time is finally right to realize its original vision. Advances in immersive technology and the growing adoption of virtual reality by museums have created new opportunities to share history in meaningful ways. At the same time, as firsthand witnesses to the Holocaust become fewer and antisemitism and historical misinformation continue to rise, preserving Anne Frank’s story has never been more important.
