May 29th, 1953
Mt. Everest, Nepal
In the early 20th century, climbers began trying to reach the summit of the highest mountain in the world, Mount Everest. Some, like George Mallory in 1924, tragically lost their lives. Most came away with bitter disappointment. All ultimately failed. It wasn’t until May 29th, 1953, when two brave men were able to finally conquer the summit and accomplish one of the last major feats of physical human achievement.
“Everest ’53” will recreate this famous climb in virtual reality, showing the final moments as Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay finally reach the summit. Viewers of the experience will feel like they are truly on the mountain with Hillary and Norgay, witnessing the pinnacle of mountaineering for the very first time.
As with all of its historical moments, CGO Studios works with the world’s leading experts to ensure the most historically accurate experience possible. For this project, CGO is working with Peter Hillary, Jamling Tenzing, and Norbu Tenzing for both their knowledge of their fathers and their experience climbing Everest themselves.
